Object: Comments from the No-Nutriscore Alliance on the exchange of views of the European Parliament’s AGRI Committee with Mr Julien Denormandie, French Minister for Agriculture and Food, on the priorities of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the field of agriculture.
Yesterday, the French Minister for Agriculture and Food presented the priorities of the French Presidency of the European Council, for the first half of 2022, to the Committee on Agriculture of the European Parliament.
Among these issues, the Nutriscore is no longer considered as an urgent or relevant topic by the Elys e – it seems to be quite in the background now, finally – and, in the words of Minister Denormandie, it must absolutely be revised.
We welcome this change of perspective by the French government, increasingly convinced that a labeling system based on an algorithm that considers the 100 g of a product as a normal portion and that includes only a small part of the overall ingredients of the food, is undoubtedly too simplistic, misleading for the consumer and dangerous for everyone’s health, as well as mainly useful just for ultra-processed products, enriched with chemical additives.
